If SS22 fashion weeks are anything to go by, next season is going to be a scorcher, regardless of whether you're soaking up the sun during your first holiday in what seems like forever, or you're distancing yourself from the social world through your garden once again. As far as fashion is concerned, winter isn't so bad. Following the end of the lockdown, our post-lockdown wardrobes are being overwhelmed with AW21 trends, which are much more tempting than the tracksuits we have worn lately and enable us to enjoy those occasional forays back into society all the more.
If anything makes the cold season more appealing, it is undoubtedly the wardrobe updates that it encourages, whether it's super-sized knits that double as wraparound duvets on ultra-cold days or Meghan Markle's favorite 'solo saturation'. It's true that nothing beats a summer wardrobe full of carefree style, and SS22's is a whole lot more nostalgic, celebratory and light-hearted than anything we've seen in a while.
Here's what's in store: ULTRA mini minis, super sheer fabrics, outerwear as underwear, neons of the '90s, low-slung waists of the '00s, and yes, more cut-out…
See the 14 SS22 trends you'll all be chasing next season...
LOW RISE WAISTS
Come spring 2022, high-rise jeans are gone, and things get a whole lot more '00s, as low-rise jeans make their way back to the forefront of sartorial consciousness. In these styles, it's all about bare midriffs, so opting for a low-rise over a long knit has little trend value. Instead, go with cropped tops for a full dose of '00s drama.
PLEATED SKIRTS
Zanini Summer Spring Collection 2022
As for the most popular trends this season, the pleated skirt continues to be one of the most popular. While there were a few mini versions reminiscent of this summer's tennis skirt, the pleated midi remains the hottest choice. Besides that, the sky's the limit. Tops with pleats can be printed, plain, colorful, monochrome, paired with knits, or paired with a bralette, as long as the pleats are present.
LIQUID METAL SHEENS
Metallic spangle will be accessible by next season without the need for sequins, which are harmful to the environment. As an alternative, why not consider liquid metal sheens; a subtler, more grown-up and contemporary way to add shine? Usually - but not exclusively - found in golds and silvers, these sheeny dreams create a feeling of molten metal as luxurious, shimmering fabric naturally falls around you.
SHEER BLISS
Acne Studios SS Collection 2022
Ludovic De Saint Sernin SS 2022
Spring is a great time for super sheer fabrics to make a comeback, a trend best suited for those who want to get back into fashion after spending two years wearing tracksuits. Among the most versatile trends for SS22, these can be cleverly layered to protect modesty.
ULTRA-MINI MINIS
Christian Dior SS Collection 2022
Emporio Armani SS Collection 2022
It is possible pleated skirts will be midi this spring season, but everything else is lowering hemlines to ridiculously short lengths. There are several inches of thigh exposed beneath the short slip of fabric in these minis that the supermodels of the '90s would have worn with pride. Make sure the skirt still packs a punch, even if it is small, by choosing shades, prints and fabrics that make a statement.
WHITE SUITING
As many people work from home in loungewear, suits have been off the radar for quite some time. The old staple is set to return with a vengeance next season. There's nothing more enticing than the sight of white pieces with striking accents. From sleek waist ties to black contrast hardware and bold shoulders, these are pieces you'll wish you had more of in your closet.
ACCESSORIZED LEGS
When it comes to summer, many of us don't even think about dressing our legs, despite tights being a staple in many winter wardrobes. We're happy as long as they're covered with SPF and not overheating. However, next season, feathered boots, lace leggings, and embroidered hosiery will make a comeback.
STRAP IT UP
Nensi Dojaka SS Collection 2022
The strapped accent has been garnering popularity over the past few seasons, but is set to take off from summer 2022 onward. No matter if it's a top with straps crossing the shoulders and décolletage, or a pair of pants with straps criss-crossing the stomach - or, indeed, both - you'll have to settle for any tan lines next season.
HIGHLIGHTER YELLOW
Christian Dior SS Collection 2022
Yellow will be the most popular color for spring and summer, according to the women's fashion forecast for 2022. So start picking shades - everything will be in style - from saffron to lemon. It looks like neon yellow is one of the hottest hues next summer, and it won't be for the wardrobe wallflowers. The color is especially stunning when worn head-to-toe.
NETTED KNITS
Saint Laurent SS Collection 2022
Supriya Lele SS Collection 2022
We rarely see knitwear as a major summer trend due to obvious reasons, but after SS21's obsession with all things crochet, we'll see fairweather knits give a more grown-up glow up in netting. Whether you're at the beach or having a date night in the city, you'll find any reason to wear your netted knitwear - trust us on this.
CUT-OUTS
Christian Siriano SS Collection 2022
We Cut-outs are nothing new. Although they were a few seasons ago, they are proving to be a more long-term look than any of us initially thought. Surely, that is something to be celebrated! If you think about its cost-per-wear and the environment, the more you enjoy wearing something, the better, and with cut-outs - wherever they occur - seemingly going nowhere fast, you'd be wise to jump on board.
HYPER FEMININE
Simone Rocha SS Collection 2022
Season after season, muted tones and style androgyny are gaining traction, and it's been a while since traditionally-feminine pieces had their moments in the sun. This summer, however, frothy fabrics and pink hues - from candy, rose, and fuchsia - prove an interesting, playful point of difference.
UNDERWEAR OUTERWEAR
The fearless dressers will also be pleased to know that, as of summer 2022, underwear will be acceptable as outerwear. It's definitely chic when worn underneath an open blazer or a top or dress with a convenient cutout (there's that trend again) to give you a subtle hint of sexy.
BULKY BAGS
Richard Quinn SS Collection 2022
Louis Vuitton SS Collection 2022
It's officially time to end our love affair with micro bags, as next season sees the biggest, bulkiest totes take the handbag world by storm. Great news for those of us with endless ‘essentials’ that we've been struggling to stuff in our teeny tiny bags over recent years. Less good news for our posture.
FRINGES
Christian Dior SS Collection 2022
Alberta Ferretti SS Collection 2022
Salvatore Ferragamo SS Collection 2022
Flare continues its triumphant march on the women's fashion catwalks of 2022, proving that fashion trends are fleeting and changeable. Long fringe is one of the major fashion trends in 2022. Throughout new collections, it takes on a variety of interpretations, including glamorous looks, 20s-inspired designs, and western-inspired looks. This trend has been interpreted in different ways by designs, offering fashionistas new ideas for 2022 women's clothing with fringe in different styles.
BRALETTES
Roberto Cavalli SS Collection 2022
Nensi Dojaka SS Collection 2022
Bralettes are a must-have for spring/summer 2022. A bralette can give your fall looks a touch of femininity and glamor. They can be worn under a jacket or as a spectacular accessory with a shirt or sweater to add femininity and glam. The trend is to wear restrained models without decor and chic bra tops with lace or pearls.
NEON
Marques’ Almeida SS Collection 2022
Prabal Gurung SS Collection 2022
All were stricken with blues and melancholy due to forced isolation. The wardrobe reflected this mood. When all restrictions are lifted, what sort of fashion will we see? The spring collections are literally exploding with bright neon shades - designers clearly hope it will be so! Yellow-green shades will be especially popular.
TIGER PRINTS
Kenneth Ize SS Collection 2022
Salvatore Ferragamo SS Collection 2022
The tiger replaced pythons and cheetahs as the most prominent, influential print on clothing this year. This design was seen on many runways and frequently on various types of clothing, often keeping the colors of natural tiger stripes.
PRINT SETS
Christian Dior SS Collection 2022
A set of printed material should become an essential element of your wardrobe based on what will be fashionable in the next season. Try new things, break stereotypes and be bold. Get dressed from head to toe in Argyle. Choose the most unexpected and daring color combinations and schemes with flowers, stripes, and other unusual patterns.
FLORAL PRINTS
Prabal Gurung SS Collection 2022
Junya Watanabe SS Collection 2022
Miranda Priestly describes floral trends in spring as "for the love of flowers." But in all seriousness, there are various types of floral trends. There may be prints that are small, while others are enlarged, while still others are abstract. Flowers bloom in springtime in women's clothing collections. Flowers will be as bright, colorful, and large as possible next season.
ABSTRACT ELEMENTS
Cynthia Rowley SS Collection 2022
Jason Wu was the first designer to incorporate this floral trend into his collection, in his words he has been working to find beauty in the imperfect parts of life during the pandemic. It was explained in his show notes that he collaborated with a new fabric designer in New York that uses a fabric bundling technique to force the imprints of real flowers into abstract details on fabric. Therefore, he chose to feature this new print style prominently in his collection, with only a few pieces without prints. Cindy Rowley's collection also featured abstract florals throughout, though we're not sure if this was achieved with a fabric bundling technique.
PLAID POWER
Acne Studio SS Collection 2022
Plaids are often a fall or winter trend, but this year they have moved into the spring. Many types of plaid are being used with large floral details on the runway. Among the most common plaids are the windowpane plaid and the Balmoral plaid. Also popular is the checkerboard plaid.
The Trends are unlimited as some fashion is making a comeback and new designs are being designed. Above are some trends that have been shortlisted for you to see as they never fade out.
